DUSHANBE, June 9, Asia-Plus — The first regional HIV/AIDS trainer training seminar for journalists opened in Dushanbe today.
This five-day training for Central Asian reporters in the skills to run seminars for their colleagues on coverage of HIV-AIDS subjects is staged by the Central Asia AIDS Control Project (CAAP) in cooperation with the UNESCO Almaty Cluster.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the CAAP national coordinator in Tajikistan Asomiddin Latipov said that during five days, 20 journalists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will learn skills to run seminars on coverage of HIV/AIDS subjects in media.
The Central Asia AIDS Control Project jointly with the UNSECO Almaty Cluster has worked out educational supplies for media trainers on coverage of the HIV-AIDS subjects especially for this training seminar.
Central Asia AIDS Control Project is the first Regional HIV/AIDS initiative financed by the International Development Association (IDA) and Department for International Development (DFID). The total amount of the Grant is 27 million US dollars. Project is implemented in four Central Asia countries: Kazakhstan; Kyrgyzstan; Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The Project is expected to be completed by June 30, 2010. The Project development objective is to contribute to the HIV Spreading Control in Central Asian region through the strengthening of regional and national capacity and cooperation between the Public Sector, NGOs and Private Sector.
