President attends Navrouz show in Khujand, lays cornerstone of new ‘modern city’ in Sughd

DUSHANBE/KHUJAND, March 25, 2015, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon attended a theatrical show dedicated to the Navrouz festival that took place at the central stadium of Khujand, the capital of the northern province of Sughd on March 22.

More than 7,000 people were involved in the Navrouz theatrical show in Khujand.

Speaking at the event, President Rahmon congratulated the people of Tajikistan on the Navrouz holiday.

On March 23, President Rahmon inaugurated a 35-apartment building in the city of Qairoqqum.  Construction of this apartment building was funded by local businesswoman Tursunoy Zokirova.

She reportedly provided ten apartments in this residential building to peoples with disabilities, orphans and vulnerable families free of charge.

While in Qairoqqum, Emomali Rahmon also attended official ceremonies of opening of three workshops that had been constructed by local entrepreneur Isroilkhouja Samandarov.  These workshops have created 40 new jobs for local residents.

Besides, the president inaugurated a new poultry plant in Qairoqqum, constructed by local entrepreneur Davron Poulodov.  This poultry plant has created 60 new jobs.

Meanwhile, Tajik president’s official website reports Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on March 24 laid the cornerstone of a new modern city in the Somghor are of the Bobojongahfourov district.

This city for more than 40,000 families or some 250,000 people, named Saihun after a nearby river, will be built on a 14,000-hectare desert land.

The new city will have 19 residential areas, some 50 schools, 40 sports centers, and numerous shopping centers and bazaars, the president’s official website says, noting that a total of 1,000 hectares of the desert around the city will be turned into orchards.
