At the Asian Boxing Championships in Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent, athletes from two age categories – up to 15 and up to 17 years old – are participating. Boxers are competing for medals in a wide range of weight categories: the junior group has 15 weights, while the senior group has 13.
Athletes from Tajikistan have won two awards at the Asian Boxing U15 & U17 Championships in Uzbekistan, and the team is represented by a total of 20 athletes.
In the category up to 15 years old, the team includes Rasoul Karimov (33 kg), Muhammad Faizulloyev (35 kg), Muhammad Qodirov (37 kg), Muhammad Fozilov (55 kg), Muhammad Sulaymonov (58 kg), Abdullo Habibov (70 kg), Jabrail Nouraliyev (40 kg), Umar Ibrohimov (49 kg), Furugh Sakhadzoda (60 kg), and Azizakhon Bobojonova (52 kg).

In the senior category up to 17 years old, Anushervon Sidiqov (46 kg), Firouz Boymatov (48 kg), Qosim Mirzoyev (50 kg), Abdurahim Sharipov (66 kg), Damir Nazarov (52 kg), Ali Nazarov (60 kg), Behrouz Umarov (54 kg), Behrouz Okhunov (57 kg), Hamza Rahimov (63 kg), and Rouzibek Miravotov (70 kg) competed. The team’s training and leadership are managed by coaches Emomali Malayev and Nosir Azimov.
As a result of the fights, Muhammad Sulaymonov in the 58 kg weight class and Azizakhon Bobojonova (52 kg) managed to win bronze medals in the tournament.

Tajikistan also has two more finalists in the U-17 category – this guarantees two more medals, but it is not yet known whether they will be gold or silver.
Anushervon Sidiqov (46 kg) will compete in the final against Uzbekistan’s Abdullo Nouraliyev, and Behrouz Umarov (54 kg) against Abdulbosit Yursunboyev (Uzbekistan).
The winners’ names will be known on May 15.
The continental championships have gathered more than 500 young boxers from 21 Asian countries.
According to experts, the current championship will become an important selection platform for forming teams that will be oriented towards the Youth Olympic Games and adult international competitions in the coming years.
