In Tajikistan, the incidence of infectious and parasitic diseases has decreased

Infectious disease incidence in Tajikistan decreased by 13.5% at the beginning of 2026.

In the first quarter of 2026, Tajikistan registered 5,338 cases of infectious diseases, which is 13.5% less than the same period last year. This was reported by the Statistics Agency of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Which diseases were most common

In the structure of infectious morbidity:

diseases preventable by vaccination — 25.3%;

acute viral hepatitis — 24.5%;

socially significant diseases (tuberculosis, HIV, sexually transmitted infections) — about 17.1%;

acute intestinal infections — 15.1%;

Among the vaccine-preventable infections, 970 cases of chickenpox were registered. Meanwhile, the number of measles cases decreased by 23.7%, whooping cough by 80%, and epidemic mumps by 36.7%.

Additionally, during the reporting period, 847 new cases of tuberculosis were identified, which is 7.1% less than the previous year.

Furthermore, 52 cases of syphilis, 9 cases of gonorrhea, and 2 cases of pediculosis were registered.

The number of parasitic diseases has decreased

In January–March 2026, the country registered 8,086 cases of parasitic diseases — 16% less compared to the same period in 2025.

The highest number of cases was recorded in the Khatlon region — 5,140.

Among the most common parasitic diseases:

  • ascariasis — 3,250 cases;
  • giardiasis — 2,115;
  • enterobiasis — 2,051;
  • hymenolepiasis — 501;
  • trichocephalosis — 2 cases.

For comparison, in the first eight months of 2025, Tajikistan registered nearly 19,500 cases of infectious diseases, which is 22.2% more than the same period in 2024.

At that time, acute viral hepatitis accounted for 11.1% of all infections, while acute intestinal infections made up 45.2%.

However, the Ministry of Health noted that there was no reason for serious concern. As explained by the Deputy Head of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance Department of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tajikistan, Navruz Jafarov, the increase in indicators was associated with a rise in the number of citizen appeals, as well as improvements in laboratory diagnostics.
