During negotiations in Beijing, U.S. President Donald Trump highly praised the relations with Chinese President Xi Jinping, calling him a great leader.
“It is a great honor for me. We have developed a wonderful relationship. We have always found common ground,” Trump stated.
The BBC’s Russian Service reports that according to him, even in difficult moments, Washington and Beijing were able to quickly find solutions.
“When difficulties arose, we solved them together. I could call you, you could call me — and every time a problem appeared, we found a solution very quickly,” the U.S. leader noted.
Trump also expressed confidence in the further cooperation between the two countries.
“I have great respect for China and what you have managed to achieve. You are a great leader,” he said, addressing Xi Jinping.

In turn, Xi Jinping stated:
“The whole world is watching our meeting.” “Changes that have not been seen for a century are happening faster and faster globally, and the international situation is constantly changing and remains turbulent.”
“Whether China and the United States can overcome the so-called ‘Thucydides’ trap’ and create a new paradigm of relations between major powers; whether we can join efforts to solve global problems and ensure greater stability in the world; whether we can take care of the well-being of our two peoples, the future and fate of humanity, and together create a bright future for bilateral relations — these, one might say, are questions of history, questions of peace, and questions of the people,” he said.
“These are also the answers of our era, which we as leaders of major powers must write together,” said the Chinese leader.

Donald Trump arrived on a visit to China on May 13. This is the first visit of the U.S. leader to Beijing since 2017, when Trump visited the country after winning the presidential elections. This visit was supposed to take place in March but was postponed after the US and Israel started a war against Iran.
Before the meeting with Xi Jinping, Trump stated that he would ask him to “open up” China’s economy to major American technology companies.
The U.S. delegation includes Trump’s son Eric and leaders of several major technology firms, including Nvidia chip manufacturer CEO Jensen Huang, Tesla and SpaceX owner and CEO Elon Musk, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and head of the largest American investment firm BlackRock Larry Fink.
