DUSHANBE, March 27, 2015, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan will make every effort to evacuate its nationals from Yemen, Abulfayz Atoyev, a spokesman for the Tajik MFA, told Asia-Plus in an interview on March 27.

According to him, they are currently studying all the possible routes of evacuation of Tajik nationals from Sanaa and Aden.

“Approximately 100 Tajik medical workers now work in Yemen and some of them stay there with their families” said Atoyev.  “In Yemen, they work for three Russian medical companies and we are in constant contact with employees of these companies on the issue of evacuation of our nationals from Yemen.”

He also stressed that during his visit to Sanaa in January this year, Tajik Ambassador to Qatar Ardasher Qodiri met there with Yemeni authorities to discuss issues related to providing security of Tajik nationals working in Yemen.

“While in Sanaa, Qodiri also met with Russian ambassador to Yemen, who assured our diplomat that in case of deterioration of the situation Russian emergencies ministry’s planes will evacuate Russian and Tajik citizens, because Moscow understands that Tajik medical workers were sent to Yemen by Russian companies,” the MFA spokesman noted.

Atoyev also expressed regret that Tajik nationals working in Yemen had ignored repeated advices of Tajikistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to leave the country.

We will recall that Tajik nationals working in Yemen’s capital Sana have appealed to the Tajik authorities to help them return to Tajikistan.
