DUSHANBE, May 29, Asia-Plus  — Construction of a water-intake facility for the small hydropower plant Shirk has been completed in GBAO‘s Darvoz district, Salohiddin Mirzoyev, the deputy director of the energy projects management unit, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, the Shirk station with capacity of 1,020 kW will be able to generate more than 6 million kWh of electrical power per year.  The estimated budget for construction of this power plant is $1.224 million, the deputy director said.

In the meantime, Nazar Ghoibov, a chief specialist with the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI), said that of 55 feasibility studies for construction of small power plants in the country, 18 had already been approved by specialists from the energy projects management unit.

In 2008-2010, 23 small hydropower plants are expected to be constructed in the country due to grants and preferential loans provided by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and a number of other international financial institutions.

The Shirk station in Darvoz is being constructed with participation of the British company Brimstone Industry LTD (phonetically spelled), Mirzoyev said

We will recall that under a long-term national program of construction of small hydropower plants, 71 small power plants are scheduled to be built in Tajikistan by 2020.  The total capacity of the plants will be 480.571 million kWh of electricity a year.
