DUSHANBE, May 26, Asia-Plus — Border guards and officers from the GBAO counternarcotics directorate have warded off an attempt by Afghan drug traffickers to smuggle a large amount of heroin into the Darvoz district, Gorno Badakhshan.
According to the Drug Control Agency (DCA) head office in Dushanbe, borer guards and the counternarcotics officers spotted and tried to detain a group of Afghan drug traffickers who were illegally crossing the border river in the Darvoz district last Thursday night. They were forced to fire at the trespassers after they opened fired at the border guards and counternarcotics officers and tried to flee.
“Using the cover of night, the trespassers managed to return to the contiguous territory,” said the source, “A sack containing 12 kilograms of heroin and two rubber floaters were found at the scene of action.”
Criminal proceedings have been instituted and an investigation is under way.
