DUSHANBE, May 8, 2015, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon today morning left for Moscow to participate in events to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Victory over Nazism.
An informal CIS summit will take place there today afternoon and extensive celebrations to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 will be held in Moscow on May 9.
While in Moscow, Rahmon is expected to hold a number of bilateral meetings, the Tajik president’s official website says.
Meanwhile, Russian media sources reported on May 7 that Russian presidential press secretary Dmitriy Peskov told journalists that the leaders of Ukraine, Moldova and Uzbekistan ignored the informal CIS summit in Moscow.
According to him, the summit will be attended by the presidents of 8 CIS member countries – of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
Leaders from at least 25 states, including North Korea”s Kim Jong Un, have accepted invitations to attend the events. Many European leaders have declined invitations to join the Victory Day events, citing Russia”s alleged involvement in the Ukrainian crisis.
On May 8, the Kremlin will also host an informal summit of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAES), at which EAES member states will consider admission Kyrgyzstan to the Union.
