DUSHANBE, May 26, Asia-Plus  — The Friendship Race dedicated to the 63rd anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and the 90th anniversary of the formation of Border Guards of the Russian Federation left Tajikistan yesterday and its symbols were transported to Moscow by plane, Asia-Plus has learned at the public relations center within the State Committee for National Security (GKNB).

We will recall that the Friendship Race arrived in Tajikistan on May 19.  Kyrgyz border guards handed over the Race’s symbols – cup and cartridge with handful of earth – to their Tajik and Russian colleagues at the border crossing checkpoint Qizil-Art in GBAO-‘s Murgab district.  In Tajikistan, the Friendship Race went along the Tajik-Afghan border and arrived in Dushanbe on May 25.

By resolution adopted at a session of the council of the CIS border troops commanders the race was launched on February 15 and it went along borders of the former Soviet Union republics.  The Friendship Race will be finished in Moscow on May 28, which is a day to mark the formation of the Russian Border Guards, the source said.  Tajik border troops mark their professional holiday on May 28 as well.

The first Friendship Race was held in the 1960s.  The cartridge with pinch of the Brest earth was carried along the border of the Soviet Union.
