KHUJAND, May 26, Asia-Plus — Cocoon-producing campaign is progressing in northern Tajikistan.
Alisher Mirkholiqov, an agronomist with the Sughd directorate Pilla (cocoon), told Asia-Plus on Monday that local silkworm breeders have produced 506.6 tons of cocoons by May 24, which is 40 percent of the target determined at 1,299 tons of cocoons.
“Last year, the silkworm breeders had reached only 16 percent of the target to this day, having produced 255.7 tons,” the agronomist said.
According to him, Konibodom has topped Sughd’s districts in production of cocoon. The Konibodom silkworm breeders have produced 137.1 tons of cocoons so far, which is 79.2 percent of the target.
