DUSHANBE, May 24, Asia-Plus  — On Thursday May 22, the first Deputy Economic Development and Trade Minister, Amonullo Ashour, met here with representatives of Turkey’s Grand National Assembly (Turkiye Buyuk Millet Meclisi), Mehmed Muazin Ogli and Turan Kiratli (phonetically spelled), according to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT).

The source at a MoEDT said that Turkish MPs had shown interest in expansion of mutual relations.  They inquired about Tajikistan’s laws on economic cooperation, how joint ventures work in the country and what sectors require investments.

In the course of the talks, the Tajik deputy minister noted that trade between Tajikistan and Turkey has increased nine times since 2000.  Last year, a two-way trade between the to countries reached $550, while over the first four months of this year, it has already amounted to $208.

45 Tajik-Turkish joint ventures currently operate in Tajikistan.      

            The MoEDT source noted that Turkish President Abdullah Gul is expected to pay an official visit to Tajikistan in the near future, and both sides hope that Turkish president’s visit will give a new impulse to further development of relations between Tajikistan and Turkey.
