DUSHANBE, April 9, Asia-Plus  – Issues related to ecology education and raising ecology culture among youth were discussed at a seminar staged by joint efforts the Ministry of Education, the Committee for Environmental Protection and the OSCE Center in Dushanbe.  The seminar was conducted on April 9

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Alisher Idizoda, a leading specialist with the science and innovation department at the Ministry of Education, said that the seminar that had brought together representatives from the education authorities, school principals and teachers as well as lecturers from chairs of ecology and environmental protection at higher educational institutions.

The seminar participants discussed ways to promote enhancement of ecology education among youth, the leading specialist said.

On the sidelines of the seminar, the OSCE Center handed over 8,500 tutorials on ecology of Tajikistan to the Ministry of Education.

“The authors had an aim to form a different attitude towards environment among the rising generation. This attitude will promote understanding of the mutual dependence of human beings and the nature,” said Ambassador Vladimir Pryakhin, Head of the OSCE Centre in Dushanbe.

According to Rukhshona Najmiddinova, Senior Press and Public Information Assistant, OSCE Center, the tutorial titled “Environment for generation to come” was worked out by Central Asian Regional Ecological Centre (CAREC), an OSCE executive partner, especially for school children in Tajikistan.

The teaching aids will be distributed to schools all over Tajikistan for complementary classes on ecology for middle school students.

“Publication of this tutorial for all schools is indeed a significant step in nature protection, as it brings up a nature sensitive generation. It is even more important that the material is adapted to environmental situation in Tajikistan and not just general information about environment protection. This, I believe, will make the students feel the how important the subject is,” Education Minister Abdujabbor Rahmonov.

OSCE sponsored the project from funds provided by Canadian International Development Agency.
