Cooperation with Tajikistan is strategic partnership, says Russian FM

DUSHANBE, March 28, Asia-Plus  — Cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan in 2007 is a strategic partnership, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters in Moscow yesterday after a meeting with his Tajik counterpart Hamrokhon Zarifi.

“I would describe a level of our interaction last year As strategic partnership, which does not leave place for any uncertainty, which is based on consensus of main national interests of our states and which allows resolving any issues,” Lavrov said, according Russia’s MFA press service.   

According to him, the sides plan to strengthen strategic partnership in 2008 and bring it to higher level.   

“Bilateral relations are developing dynamically relaying on agreements that have been reached between our presidents over the past several years,” the Russian minister said.   

Speaking to reporters, Lavrov noted that they had also discussed a broad range of issues related to bilateral cooperation between the two countries and exchanged views on tasks to be resolved by the Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC), the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the CIS.
