DUSHANBE, February 25, 2016, Asia-Plus — United States Ambassador to Tajikistan Elisabeth Millard commemorated the opening day of the Central Asian Regional Training in Risk Analysis and Risk Management training at the OSCE/Border Management Staff College on February 22.

The U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe sponsors this training, working in conjunction with the Export Control and Related Border Security program (EXBS), to bring together customs officers from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Afghanistan.

Facilitating strong regional relationships among the countries of Central Asia is a key goal of the U.S. mission.  Ambassador Millard thanked the OSCE/Border Management Staff College for hosting this training and an additional four training sessions planned for customs officers from these Central Asian countries.

The Export Control and Related Border Security program assists partner countries capabilities to detect, interdict, investigate and prosecute illicit transfers of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), WMD related items, and conventional arms.  The U.S. embassy will continue to support the Government of Tajikistan through a partnership between U.S. agencies in order to provide enhanced equipment, training, and infrastructure improvements.

This training is one example of the many assistance projects U.S. Embassy Dushanbe implements in Tajikistan on behalf of the people of the United States.  Since 1992, the American people have provided more than 1 billion U.S. dollars in assistance programs that support the economic growth, democratic institutions, health care, education, and security systems of Tajikistan.
