DUSHANBE, March 2, 2016, Asia-Plus – The Ministry of Transport (MoT) informs about problems with the construction of the Shouroobod-Shagon section of the road connecting Kulob and Qalaikhumb, the administrative center of the Darvoz district in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
An official source at a MoT says specialists revealed cracks in the road surface last month. “The ministry has set up the scientific and technical council to discuss the geological exploration of the Shouroobod-Shagon section of the road,” the source said, noting the council members include representatives of relevant agencies.
A total cost of the construction of the Kulob-Qalaikhumb Road (Shuoroobod-Shagon Section) is 92.9 million U.S. dollars. The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the Saudi Fund for Development (SDF) have provided 20 million U.S. dollars each; the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) has provided 17 million U.S. dollars; the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has provided 15 million U.S. dollars; and the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) has provided 13 million U.S. dollars. Tajik Government’s share in the project amounts to 7.9 million U.S. dollars.
Kuwaiti Combined Group Contracting Co. (CGC) won the tender for construction of the road in cooperation with Turkey-based Tekar Teknik Arastirma Ticaret Ltd. CGC reportedly owns 70% of the project.
