DUSHANBE, March 17, Asia-Plus  — In all, $47 are provided for one course of medical treatment of TB patient in Tajikistan, Asia-Plus has learned from Sadullo Saidaliyev, the head of the Republican TB-Prevention Center.

“Of this amount, 42 somonis (TJS) are allocated from the country’s budget and the remainder is assistance provided international organizations,” Saidaliyev said, noting that 11 international organizations currently implement TB-prevention programs in Tajikistan.

“Last year, the government allocated 3,699,121 TJS for combating tuberculosis,” the TB-prevention center head said.

According to the data provided by the center, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have provided $16.8 million and more than $3 million respectively since 2004 for combating tuberculosis in Tajikistan.

Besides, World Health Organization (WHO), the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and other international organizations have also provided assistance to Tajikistan with combating the disease.

Specialists name poverty, natural disasters, unemployment, poor housing conditions and malnutrition as factors contributing to the appearance of chronic forms of tuberculosis, an increased incidence of infection, the spread of the disease, and the number of fatalities.
