38 labor migrants have entered Tajik republican TB hospital this year so far

DUSHANBE, March 14, Asia-Plus — Since the beginning of the year, 38 labor migrants that worked in the Russian Federation have entered Republican TB Hospital # 2 in the Vahdat, the TB Hospital Head Physician Saidahmad Rustamov announced at a press conference in Dushanbe on March 14.  

According to him, eight of those labor migrants have been diagnosed with HIV infection.  “Two of those HIV-infected labor migrants died,” Rustamov said, noting that 29- labor migrants entered the hospital last year.  

In all, 277 tubercular patients have entered the hospital since the beginning of this year, the head physician said. 

He added that 1,964 TB patients entered the hospital last year.  1,640 of them have got over the disease and 602 others are continuing to undergo treatment.  

The press conference with participation of senior representatives from the ministry of health and heads of the TB-prevention services is part of a seminar on a role of journalists in raising TB awareness of the population that was held on March 13-14.  

We will recall that the seminar is staged by the Republic TB-Prevention Center under support of the USAID, Project HOPE and the Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
