DUSHANBE, March 11, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s Regar-TadAZ will compete for the AFC President”s Cup 2008, which is an annual international association football competition between domestic clubs sides run by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
It will be the fourth edition of the AFC President”s Cup, a competition for football clubs in countries categorized as “emerging nations” by the Asian Football Confederation.
Eleven teams that competed were split up into three groups and play each other team in their group once. The winner of each group and the best runner-up will qualify for the semifinals, and the winners of the semifinal matches played in the final match to determine the winner. There is no match for third place
According to Tajikistan’s Football Federation, Regar-TadAZ from Tursunzoda will participate in Group A; all matches of this group will be held in Katmandu, Nepal. In Group A, Tajik football players along with Mahendra Police Club from Nepal, Pakistan Army FC and Abahani Ltd from Bangladesh will qualify for semifinal. In Group A, the matches will be held on April 20-24.
In Group B, Dordoi-Dynamo Naryn from Kyrgyzstan, Nagacorp FC from Cambodia and Taiwan Power Company FC will qualify for semifinal on April 12-16; all matches will be held in Taiwan.
In Group C, FC Ashgabat from Turkmenistan, Kanbawza from Myanmar, Ratnam SC (Sri Lanka) and Transport United from Bhutan will compete for semifinal; all matches of this Group will be held in Sri Lanka.
We will recall that Regar-TadAZ was the winner of the first edition of the AFC President’s Cup, which was held in 2005.
