Asia-Plus

DUSHANBE, April 21, 2016, Asia-Plus – A session of a joint commission of Tajikistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for trade and economic cooperation took place in Dushanbe on April 21.

Co-chaired by Qodir Qosim, Chairman of Tajikistan’s State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest), and Khalid Ghanim Al Ghaith, Assistant Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs of the UAE, the session reportedly discussed state and prospects of economic cooperation between the two countries.

Speaking at the session, Qodir Qosim noted that mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Arab Emirates has expanded, the GosKomInvest press service said.

Qosim stressed that recent visit of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon’s to the UAE “opened a new page in relations between the two countries.”

In 2015, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and the United Emirates reportedly valued at 43.1 million U.S. dollars.  This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to the UAE estimated at 1.6 million U.S. dollars and Tajikistan’s imports from the UAE worth 41.5 million U.S. dollars.

Fourteen Tajikistan-UAE joint ventures now operate in Tajikistan and six new joint ventures on processing farm produce are expected to be launched in the country in the near future.
