DUSHANBE, May 13, 2016, Asia-Plus – Ballot papers for the upcoming constitutional referendum have been sent to the regions and Tajikistan’s diplomatic missions abroad, an official source at the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) told Asia-Plus in an interview.
According to him, the ballot papers have been published in four languages – Tajik, Russian, Uzbek, and Kyrgyz. In all, 4.3 million copies have been published and ballot papers in the Russian, Uzbek and Kyrgyz languages have been sent to the areas of compact residence of Russian-speaking peoples, ethnic Uzbeks and ethnic Kyrgyz.
Besides, 38 polling stations have been set up at Tajikistan’s embassies and consulates in 29 countries of the world, the source added.
The ballot paper contains only one question: “Do you accept changes and addenda made to the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan?” and two response options (answer choices): “Yes” and “No.”
Tajikistan is set to hold a referendum on constitutional amendments on May 22 that would allow incumbent President Emomali Rahmon to run for office for an indefinite number of times.
