DUSHANBE, May 13, 2016, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday met here with Afghan Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, who arrived in Tajikistan to attend the launching ceremony of CASA-1000 Power Project.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, President Rahmon appreciated Dr. Abdullah’s active participation in the launching ceremony ad confirmed readiness of Tajikistan to cooperate with Afghanistan in implementing joint energy, transportation and transit projects.

Rahmon and Abdullah exchanged views on the process of strengthening of peace and stability in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the current situation along the Tajik-Afghan border.

They, in particular, pointed to the necessity of expansion of cooperation between the relevant bodies of the two countries in strengthening border security.  

The two sides noted with satisfaction that Tajikistan and Afghanistan had established close cooperation in providing regional security and combating terrorism, extremism, organized crime and drug trafficking.  

Rahmon and Abdullah also discussed bilateral cooperation between their countries in the fields of education and science as well as training of specialists for Afghanistan in Tajikistan.
