DUSHANBE, May 20, 2016, Asia-Plus — Hundreds of people in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), Khatlon and Sughd provinces of Tajikistan will raise their awareness on trafficking in persons’ threats and problems through a series of mobile theatrical shows to be performed by known and honored actor of the Republic of Tajikistan Alovuddin Abdulloyev and his team.

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Office in Tajikistan, the first show is taking place in Qurghon Teppa city of Khatlon province today.

This series of theatrical shows are organized under the “Dignity and Rights Project”, which is being implemented by IOM Tajikistan and is made possible by the American people through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

The series of three mobile theatrical shows on human rights and counter-trafficking in persons will inform audience on threats of human trafficking and how to keep themselves and their families safe from traffickers.

The performances reflect the actual problems of current forms of trafficking in persons and combatting it.  Although, the stories are fully fruits of the theatre’s imagination and any possible similarity with any real life story is purely coincidental, they show what happened to dozen of victims of trafficking and might happen to anyone if not to be cautious.  The performances especially target youth and women, as they are especially vulnerable to being trafficked and exploited, because they do not have enough information on working and living conditions and laws in other countries and cities, as well as they do not know much about own rights and how to defend themselves legally.

Previous theatrical performances organized by IOM Tajikistan were highly welcomed by regional governments and ordinary population attracting a high interest and repeated request for continuation of such shows.

The Project’s overall goal is in raising awareness of people, especially labor migrants, on their labor rights, as well as empowering the civil society to contribute in protection of human rights, rights of migrants, potential migrants and their families, as well as the rights of the population as a whole.
