DUSHANBE, June 23, 2016, Asia-Plus – Son of the director of the Dushanbe cable plant has got a lengthy jail term for killing local entrepreneur.

A court tin Dushanbe sentenced Obid Maqsoudov the son of the Dushanbe capbale plant director Emom Maqsoudov, to 23 years in prison of June 22.

The sentenced followed his conviction on charges of murder (Article 104 (2) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code).  Obid Masoudov had previous hooliganism conviction.

The court”s ruling was nearly identical to the prosecution”s earlier demand for a 24-year prison term.

We will recall that entrepreneur Zafar Azimov, who is known in certain circles as “Zafar Bednyak” (Zafar the Pauper), was killed in the night of February 18 from the Navrouzgoh Complex (Dushanbe hippodrome).  The 38-year-old entrepreneur had been killed following conflict between his and Emom Maqsoudov’s son.

Zafar Azimov reportedly ran construction business in Dushanbe.  According to some sources, he had several commercial shops in Dushanbe.

Emom Maqsoudov, who is also known in certain circles as “Emom Khubak,” is director of the Dushanbe cable production plant and his brother, Bilol Maqsoudov, was arrested by Interpol last year and extradited from Istanbul to Dushanbe.  According to Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service, an operation carried out by Tajik law enforcement authorities in 2010 led to the seizure of 57 kilograms of narcotic drugs.  The narcotic drugs were reportedly discovered in a car belonging to Bilol Maqsoudov.
