DUSHANBE, February 1, Asia-Plus  — Many Tajik singers habitually lip-synch during live performance, both concert and televised, and Tajik culture authorities intend to prohibit local variety singers from lip-synching.

The Ministry of Culture (MoC) prepared a draft resolution on lip-synched performances and submitted it for consideration to the government on January 27.

Gulmurod Maliyev, the head of the MoC art department, told Asia-Plus on Friday that the draft resolution was prepared last year already but it was returned to ministry as requiring improvement.

Under the draft resolution, lip-synched performances will be allowed only during big sports events and orchestra performances.

According to the MoC official, at present only backing track is used in all cultural events in the country.  However, commercial concerts are still held with using sound record, and therefore, the MoC has prepared a number of proposals on banning lip-synching in the commercial concerts.
