DUSHANBE, February 1, Asia-Plus  — Capital mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev yesterday held a meeting with participation of representatives from the city commission for ensuring regular work of the city’s economy during the winter months and Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding.

Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor, said that electricity and gas supply issues had been focus of the meeting.

During the meeting, it was noted that electricity supplies have to date been cut off 1,605 private houses and 85 multistory residential buildings.

The mayor noted that last month, electrical power was supplied to Dushanbe at the rate of 3.95 million kWh per day, which is 250,000 kWh fewer than in January 2007, when electricity was supplied to the Tajik capital at the rate of 4.2 million kWh.  “In the meantime, according to Barqi Tojik’s reports, electrical power is supplied to the city at the rate of 7-7.2 million kWh of electricity per day, which does not correspond to the facts because this figure includes electricity supplied to nearby districts subordinate to the center.”

The mayor also demanded at the meeting that changes should be made to activity of the Barqi Tojik structures in the city.  He also ordered to deliver 20 new transformers as well as sufficient high-voltage and low-voltage cables to Dushanbe.

On the work of the Dushanbe heat and power plant, it was noted that improper work of the plant had resulted from failure of relevant officials to take measures to provide it with sufficient amount of natural gas.  Barqi Tojik was recommended to reorganize Dushanbe’s electric system.

During the meeting, it was noted that Tojikgaz now meets only 46-57 percent of the Dushanbe population in natural gas.  The meeting made a decision to organize regular gas supplies to multistory residential buildings starting from February 4.
