DUSHANBE, January 26, Asia-Plus  — In 2007, net profit of Amonatbonk (Tajikistan’s savings bank) reached 7.6 million somonis (equivalent to more than $2.2 million), which is 25.2 percent more than in 2006, Mahmadamin Mahmadaminov, chairman of Amonatbonk’s board, remarked at news conference in Dushanbe on January 25.  

Amonatbonk’s assets doubled in 2007 year on year, reaching 257 million somonis (equivalent to more than $74 million), Mahmadaminov said.   

            According to him, Tajik savings bank’s capital rose 33.7 percent in the year to December 31, 2007, reaching 31.3 million somonis (more than $9 million).  As of January 1, 2 007, Amonatbonk’s capital had amounted to 23.4 million somonis ($6.7 million).  

            The Amonatbonk head also noted that volume of population’s deposits in Amonatbonk last year amounted to 67.5 million somonis ($19.4 million), which is two times more than in 2006, when the volume of population’s deposits in the bank amounted to $33.3 million ($9.6 million).  

            Last year, the bank provided 150.1 million somonis (some $43.3 million) in loans to its more than 23,000 customers.  Besides, 2,500 small and medium loans totaling 11.1 million somonis ($3.2 million) were provided to small and medium-sized enterprises in the mountain areas.  

Founded in 1925, Amonatbonk has five regional, 69 city and district branches as well as 499 agencies.
