Chairman of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament, Shukurjon Zuhurov, today met in St Petersburg with his Russian counterpart Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of State Duma (Russia’s lower chamber of parliament), on the sidelines of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Parliamentary Assembly.
According to Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, Zuhurov and Volodin discussed a broad range of issues related to bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation.
They, in particular, discussed cooperation between the two countries in the fields of energy, industry, agriculture, and labor migration.
Zuhurov and Volodin also exchanged views on the current situation in Afghanistan and Middle East.
In the course of the talks, Zuhurov expressed hope that the Russian side would carry out a thorough investigation to identify the cause of a fire that occurred in Russia’s Tyumen oblast last week.
Volodin, for his part, asked to convey his deep condolences to relatives of Tajiks who had been killed in the Tyumen fire.
Recall, seven nationals of Tajikistan were killed and three others were injured in a fire that broke out at the construction site of the poultry farm not far from the village of Yurginskoye in Russia’s Tyumen oblast in the early morning of November 19.
Russian media outlets report the fire broke out at the site for construction of the poultry farm at 01:40 am and was extinguished at 02:04 pm. TASS reports that according to the preliminary data, the fire was caused by non-observance of safety precautions for handling electrical devices.
Vyacheslav Volodin is a Russian politician and an aide to Russia's President Vladimir Putin. The former Secretary-General of United Russia was a deputy in the State Duma from 1999 until 2011. 2010 — 2012 he was Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation. On 23 September 2016, President Vladimir Putin proposed the candidacy of Vyacheslav Volodin to the post of Chairman of the State Duma. Volodin assumed office on October 5, 2016.
The State Duma is the lower house of the Federal Assembly of Russia (legislature). The State Duma forms committees and commissions. Committees are the main organs of the House involved in the legislative process. They are formed, as a rule, according to the principle of proportional representation of parliamentary associations. Chairmen of committees and their first deputies and deputies are elected by a majority vote of all deputies of the parliamentary representation of associations.
