Ex-Chairman of the State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management, Qodir Qosim, has been elected Chairman of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Tajikistan (FITUT).

A session of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Tajikistan took place in Dushanbe on February 20 and Qodir Qosim was elected a new head of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Tajikistan, replacing Sherkhon Salimzoda, who stepped down from that post voluntarily.

Sherkhon Salimzoda was elected to head the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Tajikistan on March 18, 2015, and in February last year, he was appointed director of the country’s counter narcotics agency.

The Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Tajikistan (FITUT) is a national trade union center in Tajikistan.  It is the successor to the Soviet trade union system and claims a membership of 1.5 million, although a portion of members are found in many enterprises which are not functioning, due to economic conditions.

The FITUT is affiliated with the General Confederation of Trade Unions.

Qodir Qosim was relieved of his post of Chairman of the State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management on February 23, 2017.

Prior to becoming Chairman of the State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management in November 2013 Qodir Qosim had served as Governor of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) since November 25, 2006.

Qodir Qosim was born in the Vanj District of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region on April 9, 1961.  He graduated from the Tajik Agricultural University in 1983.
