A 24-year-old resident of Khujand, the capital of Sughd province, has been arrested on suspicion of having committed the brutal murder, according to the Interior Ministry’s website.
The incident took place in the Khistevarz jamoat of Bobojon-Ghafourov (Sughd province) district at around 2:00 am of September 6.
The man reportedly inflicted 12 stab wounds on his 26-year-old mistress in jealous rage.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against him under the provisions of Article 104 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – murder; an investigation is under way.
According to the Sughd chief prosecutor Habibullo Vohidov, eight murders have been reported in the province over the first six months of this year, which was 8 cases fewer than in the same period last year.
