MoE asks US Embassy for promoting opening of branch of one of US universities in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, November 1, Asia-Plus — Tajik Education Minister Abdiujabbor Rahmonov has asked the US Embassy in Dushanbe for promoting opening of a branch of one of US universities in Tajikistan.

Speaking at a regional conference on state-of-the-art technologies for the study of the English language today, the minister said that he has repeatedly applied to the US Embassy in Dushanbe asking them to promote opening of a branch of one of the US universities in Tajikistan.  “Today, in the presence of the conference participants I ask the US diplomatic mission once again to send my request to the US Department of Education,” Rahmonov said.

The minister noted that such branches now function in many Central Asian counties.  “I hope that with assistance of the US Embassy in Dushanbe and the Tajik Embassy in Washington we jointly with our US counterparts will tackle this problem and the branch of one the US universities will be opened in Tajikistan next year,” Rahmonov said.

We will recall that the regional two-day conference on state-of-the-art technologies for the study of the English language, staged by the Ministry of Education (MoE), opened in Dushanbe today.

The conference, which is held as part of the national program on improvement of the study of the Russian and English languages adopted in 2003, has brought together some 60 specialists, mainly English teachers, to discus issues related to seeking ways to improve the study of the English language.

US Embassy in Dushanbe provided assistance in holding the conference.
