DUSHANBE, April 16, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Over the first three months of this year, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electrical power and natural gas, has amounted to 801.2 million US dollars, which was 87.4 percent of the January-March 2008 level or 231.4 million dollars fewer, according to the State Committee for Statistics.

The trade balance of negative and mounted to 452.4 million US dollars.

Exports of goods in January-March 2009 amounted to 174.4 million US dollars, which was 48.3 percent or 162.9 million dollars fewer than in the same period of 2008.

Imports of goods into the country over the report period have amounted to 628.8 million US dollars, which was 9.9 per cent or 68.6 million dollars fewer than in January-March 2008.

Compared to February 2009 exports decreased last month by 2.6 percent, while imports increased by 8.4 percent.

In January-March 2009, Tajikistan had trade relations with 78 countries of the world, including 10 CIS states.  Over the report period the CIS countries accounted for 47 percent, or 376.4 million dollars, of Tajikistan’s external trade turnover and the far abroad countries accounted for 53 percent, or 424.8 million dollars.
