In accordance with amendments made to the country’s law on the national budget for 2018, more than 6.7 billion somoni (equivalent to more than 710 million U.S. dollars) will be spent this year on financing the country’s fuel and energy complex.  Initially, the 2018 budget projected expenditure of some 3.5 billion somoni for the country’s fuel and energy complex.

As a result the budget deficit has increased from 334 million somoni to 2.8 billion somoni; as percent of GDP the budget deficit has increased from 0.5 percent to 4.2 percent.

The Government has planned to cover the budget deficit from the following sources: receipts from privatization and use of state-owned property – 26 million somoni; receipts from realization of treasury bills – 95 million somoni; overfulfillment of targets of revenues of local budgets – 10.1 million somoni; and due to interest of deposits of the republican budget, loans (grants) of international financial institutions – 203 million somoni.

The revenue part of the 2018 budget has been increased by nearly 750 million somoni.  These additional funds are expected to be received at the expense of non-tax revenues.
