Renewable energy, green technology, resources efficiency and harmonizing environmental legislation were the focus of a series of training courses conducted by the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe in October.

Conducted in Bokhtar, Gharm, Khorog and Khujand, the courses promoted the realization of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals in Tajikistan, according to the OSCE Programme Office.

The courses reportedly brought together some 140 representatives of local government, civil society, youth and OSCE-established Aarhus Centers from all regions of the country.

The manager of the Gharm Aarhus Center, Savriniso Hafizova, said: “It is important that representatives of governmental structures, businesses and the civil society of Gharm participated in this training.  They increased their knowledge on environmental matters and learned how to apply green technologies in remote areas of the Rasht valley.”

“I was impressed by just how active the participants were.  These training courses are practical steps to improving the efficient use of resources and the transition to a green and inclusive economy in Tajikistan,” said an environmental specialist from Lithuania, Saulius Smalys, who conducted the courses.
