DUSHANBE, September 24, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s Ministry of Interior (MoI) and other law enforcement agencies are toughening security measures in connection with upcoming summit meetings of the CIS, the Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC) and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) that will be held in the Tajik capital on October 5-7.
The source at a MoI said that the ministry had elaborated and endorsed a plan of actions to ensure maintenance of public order during the mentioned summit meetings.
Appropriate preparations for the meetings started in early 2007 already. “Since May, routine patrols on the Dushanbe streets have been reinforced that has allowed reducing number of crimes in public places by police 22 percent,” the source said.
In all, more than 6,000 police officers and servicemen of the interior troops will maintain public order in the Tajik capital during the summit meetings, according to the source.
High guests – foreign ministers, heads of executive communities of the CIS, EAEC and the CSTO – will be arriving in Dushanbe beginning on October 3. “From October 5 to October 7, traffic along the protocol highway and roads adjoining it will be minimized and people are advised not drive along them unnecessarily,” the source said.
