New Tajik ambassador to Uzbekistan presents credentials to Uzbek president

DUSHANBE, September 21, Asia-Plus – On Thursday September 20, new Tajik Ambassador to Uzbekistan Bobokhon Mahmadov presented credentials to Uzbek President Islam Karimov, Uzbekistan’s news agency UzA said.  

In the course of the talks Uzbek president noted that relations between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan are based on traditions of friendship and  neighborliness.  

More than 150 bilateral cooperation documents have been singed between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan since 1992, when diplomatic relations between the two countries were established, Uzbek news agency said.  In 2006, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan increased by 19.8 percent.  

For his part, Bobokhon Mahmadov noted that Uzbekistan is one of the main trading partners of Tajikistan and the priority of his mission is to promote further expansion of cooperation between the Tajik and Uzbek nations.
