DUSHANBE, August 17, Asia-Plus — On Thursday August 16, presentation of new samples of uniform for high school students was held at the Republican Institute for Raising Teachers’ Professionalism in Dushanbe.

Copies of brochure “Instruction on Dresses Recommended for High School Students”, featuring samples of new school uniforms, were distributed to teachers and other employees of the educational sector on sidelines of the event.

Jaloliddin Amirov, a chief specialist with the high schools directorate of the Ministry of Education (MoE), told Asia-Plus that both European-style and national-style uniforms had been elaborated.

“The presented samples differ few from the school uniform, which many schools children have to date worn,” said the MoE official, “Just inconsiderable changes have been made with regard to local traditions.”

“The samples have been elaborated by the best specialists with regard to national traditions that should promote aesthetically fostering the growing generation,” Amirov said, noting that the school uniform should not be manufactured from synthetic fabrics

According to him, the samples will be submitted for consideration to school administrations and parent committees that will choose the final variant of the school uniform.

Speaking about other advantages of introduction of the school uniform, the MoE official said that this innovation will allow telling pupil from other children.  “Pupil will have more respectful attitude to his status,” Amirov said.

On the complaints about probable decision to outlaw Islamic-style headscarves — known as the “hejab” — and Tajik universities’ barring hejab-wearing girls from exams, Amirov said, “Teachers do not have the right of preventing hejab-wearing girls from attending educational facility.”  “We should seek another ways and methods in order to change this by means of explanations; however, school administrations have not yet carried out any explanatory work with parents of students wearing hejab,” the MoE said.
