Qatar’s minister says his country interested in Tajik investment projects

DUSHANBE, July 9, Asia-Plus — The results of fact-finding trips of visiting Qatari business delegation across Tajikistan were a major topic of a July 6 meeting of President Emomali Rahmon with Qatar’s Finance Minister Yusuf Hussein Kamal in Dushanbe.  

Qatar’s minister told journalists at the Dushanbe airport before his departure that Qatari companies are interested in proposed investment projects.  The minister outlined energy and industry as priorities,    

According to him, they consider these two sectors in complex – generation of electrical power and usage of it for production of aluminum and steel.  

“We visited sites for construction of small power plants and aluminum smelter, as well as iron deposit,” Yusuf Hussein Kamal said.  

Qatar’s minister further noted that tourism and relevant industries (hotel business), agriculture, as well as labor migration are also areas of which could drive the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Asked about possible sectors, in which Tajik labor migrants could work in Qatar, Yusuf Hussein Kamal noted that some 90 percent of labor resources in his country are labor migrants from 50 countries across the world and the Qatari government encourages attraction of Tajik labor migrants, especially in the construction sector.   

The minister noted that the visit had fact-finding nature and a special joint commission will be set up in the future to study specific projects for implementation.  

Yusuf Hussein Kamal and Tajikistan’s Finance Minister Safarali Najmuddinov signed a joint communiqué at the Dushanbe airport.
