DUSHANBE, June 28, Asia-Plus — The final sitting of the third session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) of the third convocation presided over by its speaker Saydullo Khairulloyev was held on June 28.  

Before the three-month recess, Tajik MPs considered and endorsed bills on the additional budget for 2007, electronic digital signature, as well as amendments to a number of laws and resolutions, including Tajikistan’s poverty reduction strategy for 2007-2009 and Tajikistan’s national development strategy for 2007-2015.  

Summing up the work carried out by the lower house during the third session, Saydullo Khairulloyev noted that it had adopted 216 laws, resolutions and other legislative documents.  “37 laws, adopted during the third session, were authored by deputies of the Majlisi Namoyandagon,” the speaker said, adding that 82 laws adopted by the lower house were seconded by the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) and signed by the head of state.   

Under Article 52 of Tajikistan’s Constitution, the regular Session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon shall be conducted once a year, from the first working day in October to the last working day in June.  The next, fourth Session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon will be opened on October 1.
