DUSHANBE, June 6, Asia-Plus – Issues related to the upcoming meeting of the presidents of Tajikistan and Russia were considered at a June 6 meeting of President Emomali Rahmon with Russian Ambassador to Tajikistan Ramazan Abdulatipov.

According to presidential press service, the two also discussed the upcoming summit of heads of state of CIS.  

Presidential press service said that the sides had hailed a progress of construction of the Sangtuda-1 hydropower plant and the present level of political and humanitarian ties between the two countries. 

Rahmon and Abdulatipov also exchanged views on the present state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation in the sectors like energy, mining, extraction and processing of natural gas and oil.  

Abdulatipov, in particular, said that Russia is interested in implementation of the energy projects, first of all, the Roghun hydroelectricity project, in Tajikistan.  According to him, Russian should take into consideration increasing authority and potential of Tajikistan, presidential press service said.  

They expressed hope that the upcoming meeting of the CIS heads of state will give new impulse to further development of the Tajik-Russian trade and economic relations.
