DUSHANBE, May 24, Asia-Plus — St. Petersburg has hosted the twenty-second session of the CIS council of heads of security agencies and special services to discuss expansion of cooperation in struggling international terrorism. 

The three-day meeting opened on May 22 and is concluding today.  

According to the center for public relations of the State Committee for National Security, the session has considered further prospects of expansion of cooperation between the CIS security agencies and special services in countering international terrorism and religious extremism, specifically activity of the religious extremist Hizb ut-Tahrir organization.  

The session has also considered issues of expansion of interaction between the CIS special services in countering illegal migration and trafficking in persons, as well as exchanged experiences in fighting organized crime in the tax, monetary and foreign economic spheres.

According to the source, the Council”s twenty-second session has also discussed a progress of implementation the CIS program for fighting international terrorism and other manifestations of extremism in 2005-2007 as well as a draft new edition of this program for 2008-2010.
