DUSHANBE, March 28, Asia-Plus — According to information posted on the website of the Tajik FMA, Ambassador Rolf Ekeus, OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities (HCNM), was supposed to arrive in Tajikistan on March 28. However, the OSCE official did not arrive in Dushanbe today.
In the meantime, according to the OSCE Center in Dushanbe, Ambassador Ekeus was not scheduled to arrive in Tajikistan this month. The source at the OSCE Center said that OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities is expected to visit Tajikistan in mid-May. The source refrained from giving further details of Ekeus’ visit.
Meanwhile, according to the Tajik MFA website, during his stay in Tajikistan, Ambassador Ekeus is scheduled to meet with President Emomali Rahmon, Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zaripov, State Adviser to the Tajik President for Social Matters and Public Relations Karomatullo Olimov and Education Minister Abdujabbor Rahmonov. Ekeus will also visit the Khatlon province and hold meeting with the Khatlon governor Ghaybullo Avzalov.
The Office of the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities was established in 1992 to identify and seek early resolution of ethnic tensions that might endanger peace, stability or friendly relations between OSCE participating States.
