DUSHANBE, March 19, Asia-Plus – On Friday March 16, Major-General Ramazon Rahimov, chief of the migration service of the Tajik Ministry of Interior (MoI), and Colonel-General Konstantin Romodanovsky, the head of Russia’s Federal Migration Service, met in Moscow to discuss some aspects of labor migration cooperation between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation.

Muhammad Egamzod, press secretary at the Tajik Embassy in Moscow, said that during the meeting, it had been noted that the number of cases of abuse of office by Russian police and violation of rights of Tajik migrants increased lately.  The sides agreed to consider issues related to these problems periodically, according to Egamzod.

The two also discussed ways to improve interaction between relevant services of the two countries on regulation of the labor migration.  They also considered a progress of the implementation of the agreement on labor migration and protection of rights of labor migrants signed during President Putin’s visit to Dushanbe in October 2004.

Rahimov and Romodanovsky agreed to hold a joint working meeting in Dushanbe in late April.  The meeting is expected to consider in details the issues that were outlined at their bilateral meeting.

During the meeting, Rahimov also introduced to his Russian counterpart the newly appointed head of the representative office of the Tajik MoI migration service in Moscow Colonel Iskandar Rajabov.  Rajabov had previously served as chief of the national office of Interpol in Tajikistan, the press secretary said.
