DUSHANBE, March 5, Asia-Plus — On Friday March 2, Zambian and Portuguese ambassadors presented credentials to President Emomali Rahmonov.

According to presidential press service, meeting of President Rahmonov with Zambian Ambassador to Tajikistan Peter Chintala focused on issues related to establishment and expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and Zambia.  During the meeting it was noted that relations of Tajikistan with Western Africa’s countries, Senegal, the Republic of South Africa and Egypt have good prospects.     

            In the course of the talks Rahmonov and Chintala exchanged views on the establishment and development of bilateral relations between the two countries in the fields of economics, commerce, development and processing of natural resources, energy, agriculture, education and culture, according to presidential press service.   

President Rahmonov and Portuguese Ambassador Manuel Marcela Monteiru Kurtu (phonetically spelled) discussed prospects of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Portugal, Abdufattoh Sharipov, a spokesman for the Tajik president, said.

According to him, President Rahmonov noted that Tajikistan attaches important significance to expansion of cooperation with European counties.  

The spokesman noted that Portuguese Ambassador had noted that his country is ready to develop relations with Tajikistan and other Central Asia’s states both through mechanisms of the European Union and the OSCE and in bilateral format.

“The two exchanged views on potentialities of expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and Portugal in sectors like energy, telecommunications, development and processing of natural resources, tourism, agriculture, science and culture,” Abdufattoh Sharipov said. 

According to him, Tajik president and Portuguese ambassador also discussed regional and international security issues, present situation in Afghanistan, fight against international terrorism and drug trafficking as well as cooperation within the framework of the European Union Border Management Program (BOMCA).
