DUSHANBE, February 23, Asia-Plus — On Thursday February 22, Tajik cellular operator Babilon-Mobile greeted its 400,000th client. 

According to Babilon-Mobile, Jumagul Latipova from Kulob proved to be the 400,000th client of the company.  The company donated a car VAZ-21010 and a cell phone with SG technology to her.   

            Parviz Tursunzoda, a spokesman for Babilon-Mobile, said that the company’s director general Behzod Fayzulloyev and representative from China’s Huawei Technologies Co Ltd in Tajikistan Chen Jamin attended the ceremony.

            According to the spokesman, Babilon-Mobile tops cellular operators functioning in Tajikistan in terms of the number of clients.  “In June 2005, Babilon-Mobile has 100,000 clients and their number had exceeded 150,000 by the end of 2005,” said Tursunzoda, “Last year, the company already greeted its 200,000th and 300,000th clients”    

Closed joint-stock company (CJSC) Babilon Mobile provides cellular telecommunications services in Tajikistan in the GSM-900/1800 and 3G-UMTS standards.  The commercial launch of the system was held on January 1, 2003.  

In addition to the capital of Dushanbe, Babilon-Mobile provides coverage to all major population centers as well as to remote districts of Gorno Badakhshan.     

The company uses state-of-the-art digital equipment of China’s Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd, which is one of the world’s leading networking and telecommunications equipment suppliers.

Ten companies providing cellular telecommunications services now function in Tajikistan: TT Mobile (MLT); Babilon-Mobile; Indigo-Tajikistan; Indigo-Somoncom; Beeline; M-Teco; Telecom Inc (Skytel); TK-Mobile, Telecom Technology and Tajik Telecom.
