DUSHANBE, February 6, Asia-Plus – Contribution of Turkey’s Government to expansion of educational-technical and economic cooperation with Tajikistan has reached $8 million, Turkish Ambassador to Tajikistan Akif Aykhan said.  

According to him, Turkey’s International Cooperation Agency (TICA) has been operating in Tajikistan since 1995.  Over the past twelve years, TICA has facilitated expansion of cooperation between Turkey and Tajikistan in the fields of economics and culture though its projects working here.  

Over the same twelve-year period, the Government of Turkey has provided $5.3 million worth of technical assistance to Tajikistan through TICA.  In 2006 alone, 19 projects totaling $3.3 million were implemented in different sectors in Tajikistan and training programs for 100 Tajik specialists were organized.  Besides, work on 14 other projects for a total amount of $2.4 million is ongoing in Tajikistan.   

Turkish Ambassador noted that the TICA Program Coordinating Office in Dushanbe plans to make a contribution of $750,000 to rehabilitation of an orphanage in Chorbogh.
