Tajikistan calls on SCO member nations to implement digital economy and e-trade projects

The Economic Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) took place in Dushanbe on June 23 to discuss issues related to expanding cooperation in the fields of digital economy, electronic trade and innovations, according to the press center of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan (MoEDT). 

Opening the Forum, Tajik Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavqi Zavqizoda called on SCO member nations to develop and implement joint projects aiming at strengthening technology parks and digital technologies.  

According to him, such projects could be implemented under support from the SCO Interbank Consortium.

Zavqizoda noted that Tajikistan had adopted the concept and the program for development of digital economy.  

Tajik minister further added that SCO member nations now account for 61 percent of Tajikistan’s foreign trade turnover and Russia, China, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are major trading partners of Tajikistan.

The Forum participants reportedly included ministers and representatives of the SCO member nations and observer states as well as representatives of the private sector. 

The Forum ended with adoption of the Dushanbe Declaration for further expansion cooperation in the fields of digital economy, electronic trade and innovations within the framework of the SCO.
