DUSHANBE, January 24, Asia-Plus — A geographical indication bill was considered and endorsed at a January 24 sitting of the third session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon  (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) of the third presided over by its chairman, Saydullo Khairulloyev.   

First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Amonullo Ashurov, presenting the bill noted that the geographical indication law currently works in many countries, while Tajik adopted it for the first time.  

A geographical indication is an official description of a region or sub-region, where goods were produced and its main purpose is to protect under international law the use of regional names, according to Ashurov.  

Parliamentarians also considered and approved bills on the public service, on joint stock companies, on state support for agrarian-industrial complex, as well as amendments to the laws on armed forces of Tajikistan, on state regulation of production and circulation of oil products.
