British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is resigning after a tumultuous term.

Media reports say British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced yesterday that he will resign, ending an unprecedented political crisis over his future that has roiled the United Kingdom in recent weeks.

Johnson reportedly said the process to select his successor would begin immediately, and a timetable for the change in leadership would be announced next week.

His departure will end his three-year turn as the British leader.  It comes after days of turmoil triggered by his evolving explanations of what he knew about a sexual misconduct scandal involving one of his allies.

Recall, two of Johnson's top Cabinet ministers quit this week, followed by more than 30 others who said they could no longer serve under his leadership, and who urged him to step down.

Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson (born June 19, 1964) is a British politician who has served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019.  Following a record number of resignations from his government, he announced his pending resignation on July 7, 2022, remaining at his positions until a new leader is elected.

He was Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016.  Johnson has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015 and was previously MP for Henley from 2001 to 2008.
