DUSHANBE, August 24, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan and Russia intend to set up a joint inter-parliament commission for expansion of bilateral cooperation, Sergey Mironov, Chairman of Russia’s Council of Federation (Russia’s upper chamber of parliament), told journalists at the Dushanbe airport.

As it had been reported earlier, Russian speaker arrived in Tajikistan today afternoon for a three-day visit to discuss cooperation issues.  

According to him, the commission will be set up under an agreement on cooperation between Russia’s Council of Federation and Tajikistan’s Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper house of parliament), which will be signed in Dushanbe today.  

During his stay in Dushanbe Sergey Mironov is scheduled to hold talks with speakers of both chambers of Tajik parliament today. 

A meeting of Mironov with his Tajik counterpart, Chairman of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, is aiming to consider inter-parliamentary and inter-chamber cooperation.  The two are supposed to sign an agreement on cooperation between Russia’s Council of Federation and Tajikistan’s Majlisi Milli

Tomorrow, Sergey Mironov will take part in an official opening of inter-parliamentary forum formally titled “Tajikistan-Russia: Prospects of Regional Cooperation.”  Tomorrow, Russian speaker will hold meetings with Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmonov and Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov.
